It introduces the concepts of elevations, slope and topography in the survey field and use of common survey equipment. The basic concepts of reading and interpreting site plan/print reading are also introduced. Basic road design is presented. Using data and fieldwork to determine road construction suitability is introduced in this course. 3. It provides survey students with an overview of common Survey Techniques and Procedures. Fundamental concepts of taking elevations and calculating differences, determining slope for proposed roads, determining soil types and compaction for basic design, reading topographic maps and field work to determine suitable routes for proposed roads and basic design of gravel, concrete and asphalt roads. 4. It introduces the fundamental concepts of measuring horizontal and vertical distance, angles and elevations. Basic theory of curves is introduced using varied techniques to lay out a curve in a road. Using benchmarks and creating a benchmark were required is introduced. 5. It introduces the fundamental concepts of soil composition and compaction. A basic introduction into soil bearing ratio is presented and how to use this information in road design. 6. It introduces the principles of proposed vehicle traffic and proposed use into the road design. The basic methods of combining fundamental information such as topography, soil and compaction, and vehicle traffic into a design are introduced. 7. It introduces the basic principles and techniques of road repair as it relates to gravel, concrete and asphalt roads. Competencies: 1.
